Speed-Trap

Speed-Trap is a provider of software that uses Web 2.0 technology to capture and deliver complete, real-time data on every individual on-line customer and prospect, based on detailed analysis of their current and historic on-line behaviour and experience – complete on-line customer insight.

Software solutions built using Speed-Trap are being used to drive, monitor and measure on-line marketing activity, business processes and real-time content management systems.

These include applications such as campaign management, customer segmentation, customer experience monitoring and on-line performance measurement. Other customers are using the technology to monitor key business metrics, to provide operational insight crucial for website design and for on-line fraud prevention.

The Speed-Trap On-line Customer Insight Platform is one of the most capable sets of integrated, on-line customer-focused applications on the market today. It allows organisations to deliver a wider range of customer experience, real-time personalisation and CRM applications faster and at lower cost than any competitive solution.

Technology Benefits

The technology which under-pins our solutions is not just technology for technologies sake - it provides significant operational  and business benefits. These benefits range from light-touch/zero-touch deployment, through reduction in on-going maintenance and into improved site performance.

Deployment

  • Quick, Simple Deployment

Speed-Trap's Dynamic Collection Technology, utilises a single unchanging insert (AKA "CSA" or Client-Side Adaptor) which is included in each page delivered to the visitor's browser. Because the CSA is always the same and needs no variables or other page-specific content it can simply be included by a single change to the page template, typically as part of the footer which includes the site's copyright notice.

  • Zero-touch Deployment

It is even possible to use the site's network infrastructure to make this change without ever touching the page content or CMS. In this way zero-touch deployments can be made, allowing the most complex sites and even enterprise applications to be fully "instrumented".

  • Minimize Testing

The fact that our technology dynamically adapts to the content of each page, and has been proven in billions of pages over more than 8 years also means that pre-deployment testing can be minimised, allowing typical roll-outs to be completed in less than a week, including test time.

  • Higher Availability - Lower  Risk

Unlike traditional tagging systems our Dynamic Collection technology is engineered to avoid any site performace or page load performance being impacted in the event of network or server failure. The system also includes automated monitoring tools which can be used to automatically disable the Dynamic Collection in the event of network or server overload or degradation. As a single change is needed to de-instrument the site in manual de-installation can be achieved in seconds - Traditional tag-based solutions which require an un-tagged version of the site or application to be deployed and pushed through caches etc. can mean that it can take several days to remove problem tags from a site.

Performance

  • Better Site Performance

Because the CSA cached by the client browser, the page load time experienced by the user is virtually unchanged and the overhead of traditional tagging systems is avoided. Live testing by several customers on large international sites has shown that it is not possible to detect any difference in the customer's experience when Speed-Trap's systems are deployed.

  • Automated Performance Monitoring

The fact that our systems are measuring the visitor's exact experience (including page load times and business process performance) at their browser and are able to alert operations to performance problems via SMS or e-mail, in real-time, means that most customers discover that Speed-Trap is able to improve both performance and availability of their sites, applications and business processes.

Data Integration

  • Leverage Site Development Investments

When you build and deploy any web application, a major part of your development work is data integration. This data integration brings together a wide range of data to form each page - this will often include CRM data, Promotional data, Product and Pricing data, Availability and Customer Data. Speed-Trap's unique collection process means that we are able to leverage this data integration by capturing the information you need at the point of integration - in the page.

  • A Single Source of On-line Data

This means that all the information related to a session including information like promotions, price, advertising or stock data will be an integrated part of the data models Speed-Trap will provide. This transforms into reduced deployment costs (as little or no back-end data integration is needed) and also supports Speed-Trap's "platform" proposition as this single system will be able to provide all the data you need from the on-line channel  to support your marketing, BI, personalisation and CRM projects.

  • Data in Context

The data our systems deliver is heavily contextualised both in terms of the relationship of a each captured, real-time event to the session it came from, and in terms of it's relationship with the page's content. So a click not only records the session and user the click belonged to, but the name heirachy of the object in the page that was clicked, the alt-text and image associated with the click, any href related to the click, the position on the screen, the scroll position of the page, any keys pressed when the click happened and about 50 other properties - hence our strap line "complete customer insight."

Reduced Cost of Ownership

  • No Variables = No Maintenance

Because Speed-Trap's CSA is never changing, you do not have the normal maintenance nightmare, Dynamic Collection provides a fit-and-forget model.

  • All the Data, All the Time

Because Speed-Trap's approach is to collect ALL the data from EVERY session, you never have to go back and "re-tag" the site to get additional data for a new piece of analysis - fit and forget.

  • Analysis that Survives a Re-design

Because of this complete context we capture includes the names you gave to objects, in most cases a "redesign" of the site will have no effect on the analysis we perform, as the data objects will typically
retain these names, so the re-skinning of a site will require no maintenance.

  • Run that by me Again!

Because all the data is captured and the business logic and analysis is performed post-capture, if suddenly things change, and you need to re-analyse yesterday, last week or last month no worries; all the data is there, so you can change the model configuration, update some business logic, make a new segmentation or compensate for that marketing campaign that ran with the wrong landing page!
