Co-op moves into frontline of online customer insight with Speed-Trap

Speed-Trap’s customer insight software will provide real-time online visitor behavior data to help Anglia Co-operative develop and grow its online business.

21st October 2008: Anglia Co-operative Limited is a 130 year old business that has grown to become a £300 million turnover business. 1 year ago it agreed development of an online business, and now, showing a clear determination to grow its online business to become a major part of the organization, it has selected Speed-Trap 6.1 – online customer insight software – to help to launch its new furniture website which it plans to build into a £4 million business in the first year. Speed-Trap will help the Anglia Co-operative to better understand the buying preferences of its online customers and to provide it with the customer insight and knowledge to build the online business into the largest part of the organization’s diverse portfolio of sales.

Speed-Trap’s software uses Web 2.0 technology to gather complete, real-time data about the website performance for each individual online customer and prospect, and will offer Anglia Co-operative the opportunity to maximize eCommerce revenues by guaranteeing the performance of its online purchase processes. Steve Bone, Ecommerce Operations Manager at Anglia, comments, “We anticipate 10,000 daily online visitors and are aiming to complete £4 million worth of transactions in the first year on the furniture site alone, a sum equivalent to the turnover of one of our largest furniture stores.”

Speed-Trap’s customer insight software will be integrated into Anglia’s new furniture division website – due for launch at the end of October 2008 – and will then be built into the other divisional websites over the course of 2009. Through the use of Speed-Trap 6.1, Anglia will be able to better understand the websites’ performance and usability through a clearer understanding of how the website is used and perceived.

Established in 1878, Anglia Co-operative Limited has grown to become one of the largest Co-operative societies in the UK, with very diverse operations turning over in excess of £300 million per annum. The Society currently operates in food, retail, travel and funerals, employing in the region of 3700 employees across the UK.

Bone continues, “It is imperative that we maximize every opportunity that comes along, principally by ensuring that we do not lose customers through avoidable problems on the site, such as failed page downloads or unreliable payment processes. We’re expecting an average shopping basket value of between £450 and £500 so lost customers could cause major issues in our sales plans.”

Bone adds, “Speed-Trap’s unique ability to track and dynamically monitor live information on site usage – from search terms right the way through to sales and abandonment – will aid us in understanding exactly where and why our customers are going to end a transaction. This sort of intricate awareness of the customer journey will direct us to potential pitfalls in the site’s design and performance, meaning we can make amendments in real-time to drive up conversion rates and maintain profitability.”

Bone adds, “Speed-Trap is a much simpler, and yet vastly more effective, solution than many other leading brands in the marketplace, and with it we will be able to ensure that our web development is customer-led and truly market focused. We are confident that with Speed-Trap’s extra layer of intelligence helping us monitor our online performance, the ecommerce arm of Anglia will rapidly expand to provide the lion’s share of the business.”
